Registered Psychologist – BPsych, Assoc MAPS
Katrina Wallace is a Registered psychologist who graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2012. Katrina has 5 years of clinical intervention experience working with clients within mental health wards, private practices and return to work settings. Katrina also has experience across a range of assessments. Katrina has also completed one year of a Master of teaching (primary) and has experience in school settings, in research and as a health planning officer exploring the health needs at a population and community level.
Katrina has experience and enjoys working across the lifespan and with a range of clinical presentations. She focuses on the client and therapist relationship as being one of the key drivers of success for intervention.
Katrina takes an eclectic approach to therapy drawing on the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, trauma informed therapy, attachment theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and play based therapies. Katrina has a friendly and gentle personality with a calm and supportive approach to her intervention style. She sees the strengths within her clients and uses these to help meet client goals of therapy.
Katrina also has an interest in how past adverse life events can impact on physical and mental health presentations. She is interested in neuropsychology and neuroscience in helping to understand human behaviour. Katrina is an advocate for early intervention and health promotion of mental health awareness across all environments. She is also an advocate for healthy holistic lifestyle behaviours and how they contribute to supporting mental health.
Katrina loves tapas food, staying active and engaging in self-care with bushwalks and spending time at the beach. She also enjoys rainy days at home watching movies or reading a book.
A wide range of presentations including but not limited to- Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, neurodiverse populations including autism spectrum disorder, the worried well, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, school/University stress, low self-esteem, peer difficulties, complex trauma, parenting strategies and support, work stress, self-esteem and assertiveness, communication skills, adjustment disorder, bullying, panic disorder, suicide prevention, emotional regulation strategies, social skills, coping with neurological, chronic health and physical health diagnoses.
